Recent GUIDE CAMP

25 Guides from St Thomas’ enjoyed a 4 night camp at Linnet Clough Scout Camp in Marple in August.

The theme was festivals. Totally off grid , real fire cooking , raft building , zip wire etc

35th Rochdale guides have been running for 50years

Many of the girls in the 35th Unit have advanced through Rainbows and Brownies.

Our waiting list consists of girls who are currently in Brownie units and will transfer on attaining 10 years of age.

In joining Guides you become part of a worldwide community of girls who learn together and share skills and experiences, Guides have the chance to get out there and do something really different.

If you would like your daughter to attend Guides please register with Girlguiding http://www.girlguiding.org.uk/parents. If you have any difficulty please contact Teresa & Diana by email or phone.

Programme

Guide members take part in a wide range of exciting activities at their regular meeting and at special events and holidays. Girls can get involved in anything from adventure sports to performing arts and travel and taking part in community action plans.

Guides work together in small groups or “Patrols” and with the support of an adult Leader, choose and run some of the activities themselves using Go for It resource Pack

The Guide Programme is divided into five areas,

  • Discovery of new experiences and challenges
  • Healthy lifestyles
  • Global awareness
  • Skills and relationships
  • Celebrating diversity

Guides can extend their knowledge and skills by working towards Interest Badges covering many different hobbies and activities e g Agility, Film Lover, Music Zone, Chocolate and Independant Living and have fun doing it.  They can also gain Challenge badges that recognise their participation in guiding over a period of time.

All the badges build towards the Baden-Powell Challenge Award named in honour of our founder of guiding. As part of the award Guides would need to take part in a Baden Powell Adventure (residential).

At 14 girls can join the next stage of Guiding becoming a Senior Section member and Young Leader.
